As soon as your baby grows his pearly whites, he is not immune to any oral health problems like any other person. That is why, it is important that as early as possible not only should you teach your child the proper dental hygiene but also introduce him to pediatric dentistry and to not be afraid of dentists. Once the first tooth shows up or if your baby is six to twelve months old, they are candidates for having a regular check up with a pediatric dentist.

Pediatric dentistry is a special field of dentistry that deals with children from their birth to adolescence. It is very much different from general dentistry that deals with the common dental problems of adults. Pediatric dentists focus and specialize on growth and dental development and management and prevention of dental diseases among children. For example, a child, say 6 months of age, is just starting to grow his milk teeth and is therefore prone to the most common dental problem that is dental carries, that is not meanwhile a problem for adults. You should start teaching your child on how to take care of his teeth because he will benefit from it. Since the early years are crucial, helping your child or children practice good oral habits while they are young will help them be aware with their oral health and this will prevent any oral damages.

Also, pediatric dentists engage in educating the children on the proper caring of their teeth in a fun manner. Since children are very much prone to having a sweet tooth, they are thus more prone to having tooth decay, which can however be prevented if they are only taught well on how to brush their teeth. Although milk teeth will be replaced later on by new ones, still, oral health has an amazing effect on the over-all health of a child.

Not only this. Since children have different behaviors when compared to adults, pediatric dentists are also trained in the field of child psychology, in order for them to be able to adapt to a child’s needs which are different from that of an adult. This is why pediatric dentists give a better and fun approach in helping babies or kids have good smile and at the same time, good time.

Unlike family dentists, pediatric dentists also provide a dental checklist that shows the normal development of your child’s teeth. This will help you tremendously as a parent, in the sense that by monitoring and correcting any tooth problem at an early stage, your child will not only grow beautiful and healthy teeth, but pediatric dentistry can also save you a lot of money later on.

Wow, I didn't even know that there were pediatric dentists! It's a good thing that I found this, because I wasn't sure when would be the best time to take the kids to a dentist! I guess that this means that I could start taking them immediately! Thanks so much for the advice, it's important to make sure they don't get scared of going!
